Augustine B.Edet Esq
Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer

Edet brings to NEXTZON over nineteen years experience in diverse areas including commercial banking, corporate finance/financial advisory and the practice of commercial/corporate law as well as civil litigation. He commenced his career in 1990 at Guobadia & Guobadia (now The Law Union), the largest partner-led law firm in Nigeria at one time, where he rose to the level of Senior Associate Counsel. From there, he joined Standard Trust Bank (now United Bank for Africa Plc) in 1997 as a pioneer staff where he set-up and ran the Credit Control and Loan Admin Groups respectively in addition to serving on several committees including the Management & Board Credit Committees. He later joined STB Capital Markets Limited, an investment-banking associate of Standard Trust Bank Plc, in October 2001 as Group Head, Corporate Finance and Vice President, Financial Services & Telecoms, before moving to Heirs Alliance as General Counsel in 2003, where he had responsibility over the legal and board services of a group with assets under management of over $1 Billion. During this period, Edet was instrumental to the expansion of Standard Trust Bank into the Republic of Ghana and later served as Company Secretary/Legal Advisor of Standard Trust Bank Ghana Limited, Heirs Insurance Company Limited, Nigeria (now Heirs – Metropolitan Life under the UBA Group) and as well as a host of other companies in the Heirs Alliance Group before he joined the executive management team of NEXTZON in August 2004.

As the Chief Operating Officer and an Executive Director of NEXTZON, Edet is responsible for the day to day management of the NEXTZON group and also plays business development roles in the company. In this respect, Edet is the subject matter lead for the company's pioneering work in the area of cross border investments in West Africa and other regions in Africa. As project lead, he has worked with several Nigerian banks and other businesses to establish a presence in Ghana, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Republic Du Benin, Angola and other African countries. Mr. Edet also coordinates the company's work in the area of mergers and acquisitions.

Edet graduated with a Second Class Upper division from the University of Calabar - Nigeria in 1985 with a B.Sc. Degree in Political Science and thereafter in 1989 with distinction in Law at Second Class Upper division and was honored with seven (7) Graduation Awards including 'Best Overall Performance' and 'Best All-round Results' in the Faculty of Law in 1989. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1990 and thereafter obtained a Masters of Laws from the University of Lagos, Akoka, in 1999, where he also graduated with distinction and a GPA of 4.1. He has attended several courses both in Nigeria and overseas and is an alumnus of the Lagos Business School Management Development Program as well as the Witts Business School (Johannesburg, SA), Executive Management Development Programme. . He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.
